    The Icon Museum
    Just off the northeast corner of pl. Vazrazhdane there is the Rilski Metoh that has now been restored to the Orthodox Church and is once again a nunnery affiliated to Rila Monastery. However, the building still contains an Icon Museum from Communist times, showing the achievements of Bansko's 19th century icon painters.

    Church of Sveta Troitsa
    The Church of Sveta Troitsa, on the south side of pl. Vazrazhdane, got the go-ahead after Bansko merchants paid off a local official to declare that a miraculous icon had been discovered on the site (which qualified it as "holy ground" suitable for a Christian place of worship).     Church of Sveta Bogoroditsa
    Across town, east of the train station, is located the early 19th century Church of Sveta Bogoroditsa. The church is an atmospheric, semi-submerged structure beside the town cemetery. Nowadays, most of its treasures have been moved to the Icon Museum.

    Bansko's Pl. Nikola Vaptsarov
    Bansko's modern, pedestrianized zone is centred around pl. Nikola Vaptsarov, named after the revolutionary poet. On the corner of the square, near a postwar statue of Vaptsarov in a declamatory pose, is the house where he was born, now the Nikola Vaptsarov Museum which recreates his childhood home and expounds on his life and poetry (in Bulgarian only).It is a historical monument of national significance.

    Vazrazhdane Square
    Bansko's old town begins a short way uphill on pl. Vazrazhdane, dominated by a large monument to an even more renowned son of Bansko, Otets (Father) Paisii, also known as Paisii of Hilendar (1722-73), author of the Slav-Bulgarian History. It begun in 1745, when Paisii became a monk at the Bulgarian monastery on Mount Athos, but not widely distributed until over fifty years later.

    The Neofit Rilski House - Museum

    BANSKO SKI CENTER

    Bansko is situated in the most beautiful part of Pirin Mountain and offers to all visitors excellent conditions for mountain sports and tourism. Unlike many other winter resorts, here the hotel facilities are situated exclusively in the town. Bansko mountain resort offers the most up to date infrastructure available to tourists for a perfect winter vacation.

    During these winter months the cabin/gondola lift transports skiers from the town to the vicinity of 'Bunderishka polyana' with one intermediary station at 'Chalin valog'. The capacity of the lift is 2400 people per hour.

    The highest point of the ski centre is 2560 m, and the lowest one 1000 m. The total length of the ski runs and ski paths comes up to 65 km. The excellent quality of the ski routes are achieved by 12 new piste bashing machines.

    The operator of the lifts and the ski runs in Bansko organize the perfect servicing of the complete system ranging from: gondola for 8 people, five 4-seat lifts, one 3-seat lift Roma, 6 ski-trails and 10 children trails. For beginners the magic carpet and merry go round assist all learners and novices.

    The access to the facilities is controlled by e-cards which can be purchased from the main gondola station.

    Finally with over 180 snow cannons assist the creation of a guaranteed ski season in Bansko from December to the end of April. The town of Bansko has developed into a modern winter resort in just few years with its ski facilities and hotels offering accommodation at all levels.

    The Pirin mountain range has a predominately Alpine character with three peaks towering above 2900 m. However the slopes offer runs and tracks for all types of skiers, from novice to the experts, while the ski runs are maintained in excellent condition.

    A very interesting sight is the HOLY TRINITY church with its 30 m high bell tower and clock, splendid murals and woodcarvings. D.Doinov built the church in 1835-1837 with donations by the local people. The inner space creates the impression of a hall and the emporium is two-storey with a fine curved railing the ceiling. The mural paintings and the iconostasis are the works of masters belonging to the artistic school of Bansko.

    For most visitors Bansko is just a synonym for having a good time. And it really has a lot to offer in terms of both its location and its people. Situated at the foot of the Pirin mountain range on the southern edge of a circular plain that is surrounded on all sides by mountains - Pirin, Rila and the Rhodopes - Bansko offers some spectacular views and is an ideal starting point for all kinds of excursions in summer and for skiing, snowboarding and all other related winter sports.
